Kovan is a secondary school Maths teacher. He's also going bald. He takes us through his balding journey stage by stage and with every stage, something else slips too: his confidence, his marriage, his sense of what kind of man he's supposed to be. Chasing every remedy, cure and clinic that promises to bring his hair back, Kovan slowly realises the pattern didn't start with him. It came down from his father, and his father before him not just the baldness, but the silence. Men who provided everything except words. Now Kovan must fight to win back both his hair and his life, and reclaim the crown he never got to wear. Funny, familiar and quietly heartbreaking, Male Pattern is a contemporary Tamil-English play about what it costs a man to stay silent and what it takes to finally speak.
